Why don't DC print DC Archives in TPB form? It takes a long time to collect a whole collection of a single character with those prizes.

Marvel do at least let their customers choose between Marvel Masterworks (HC) and Essential (TPB), but most of the Marvel Masterworks can't be found at amazon, and I live in Sweden and no superhero magazine is printed in Sweden except Spider-Man, so I can't get superhero comics except from the WWW. Plus I don't want comics printed in B/W when they were origionally printed in color.

Because the demand for Golden and Silver Age material isn't high enough. The price of the paperback would be almost the same as the hardcover, given current sales. And DC/Marvel don't believe the sales would increase enough for a paperback to be worth the doing. This is based on the sales track records of their other paperbacks.

Plus, Marvel does not seem thrilled with the reception to the Essentials- witness they're not doing any more and have cancelled at least one that was already announced.

Well the www has some good deals regarding comic Hardbacks/TPBs, especially if your not bothered by 1st printings.

The trouble with most older reprints is that it costs alot just to restore it, hence you might as well go for quality hardback rather than the tpb, as the later would be very expensive anyway.

The problem with Marvel I think is that the Essentials in some cases may have killed some of the interest in the Masterworks and the Essentials are often reprinted from existing reprints of material, rather than the originals ( example Classic X-Men ).

I see the Essentials and Masterworks reproducing runs that may be better suited to that format, as some titles may never get the Masterworks treatment.

Hopefully they will be doing the Dracula and Human Torch Essentials. Looking forward to Dracula if they do.

Hello gang,

The price is also due that something's worth is determinded by the demand. Of course dc makes 100% or more - but, they're not a non-profit organization are they? Yet, it ain't THAT expensive - if you had to buy these comics second-hand - you'd pay through your nose for these old books.
I understand the frustrations though. You really like these books, you'd like to have them but, it's just too expensive...
I suspect that back in 1939, some kids at the same problem with the outrageous cost of 10 cents...
